## Insulated Red Barn Dog House for Medium Dogs
The inside is a warm, insulated room with 1-1/2" rigid foam in all walls and the flat ceiling and a smooth 1/4" plywood lining. The house sits on two 4x4 skids on a gravel pad, so the floor stays 7-3/4" above the ground and dry.
### Gambrel Roof Dog House with Cupola
- Four plywood-gusset gambrel trusses for an identical, post-free roof
- 1/2" plywood, underlayment, silver ribbed metal roofing and a ridge cap
- White 10" x 10" cupola centered on the ridge
- White corner boards and rake trim against barn-red T1-11 siding
### Barn-Door X Trim, Window and Hayloft Vents
A white barn-door X panel decorates the left wall, and a 4-pane acrylic barn window lights the right side. Louvered 8x8 hayloft vents in both gables and a 4" vent in the back wall keep the air moving.
## Who This DIY Dog House Plan Is For
This intermediate plan is for DIY builders who can use a circular saw, a jigsaw and a miter saw for the angled truss cuts. Two people can build it in about two weekends. Interest in insulated dog houses rises toward winter, so this is a good time to build one before the cold months.

## Frequently Asked Questions
### How do I download the PDF after purchase?
After checkout you get a download link on the order page and by email, so you can download the barn dog house plans PDF instantly.
### What size dog is this barn dog house for?
This barn dog house is for medium dogs up to about 20" at the shoulder (roughly 20-50 lb), with a 14" x 23" door and a 34-1/2" x 40" x 26-3/4" room.
### What are the downsides of a gambrel roof on a dog house?
A gambrel roof needs more angled cuts than a simple gable, so this plan uses a full-size truss template and four identical gusset trusses to make the gambrel roof easy to build.
### Is the cupola necessary on this barn dog house?
No, the cupola is decorative; leave it out and run the ridge cap along the full length of the roof.
### Can I use shingles instead of metal on this dog house?
Yes, use underlayment, drip edge and architectural shingles, with six nails per shingle on the steep lower roof.
