## What's Included in This Chicken Coop Shed Combo Plan
The Ravenwood puts the daily chores under one roof. A charcoal-black board-and-batten building with white trim holds a feed and tool shed behind a pair of cedar barn doors, and beyond a partition wall a bright walk-in coop with four casement windows. From the shed you lift the nest box lid and take the eggs without going in with the flock, keep feed and bedding dry, and step through the partition door into the coop. At the right end the same roof runs on over a 14 ft walk-in run with its own door.
- 12' x 12' walk-in coop with 130 sq ft of floor inside, 7' 2-1/2" high at the front wall rising to 10' 3/4" at the back wall, on short posts with the floor 2' 1-1/2" up
- 8' x 12' feed and tool shed with 88 sq ft inside for feed bins, bedding and tools, behind 60" cedar double barn doors two steps up
- Partition door 28-1/2" x 72-1/2" from the shed into the coop
- Nest box with 5 nests on the shed side of the partition: the hens step in from the coop and you collect the eggs from the shed
- Walk-in run of about 153 sq ft, all under the roof, with 6' 8" clear under the door header and a 31-1/2" x 75-3/4" run door
- Three 134" roost bars with 402" of perch over a removable dropping board
- Guillotine pop door in the right end wall with a cleated ramp into the run
- Four six-lite casements in the coop (two in front, two high at the back), a wide nine-lite casement in the shed, louvered vents in both end walls and screened eaves
- One 36 ft shed roof at 3/12 with 19 identical 2x8 rafters, ice-and-water membrane, architectural asphalt shingles and a 36 ft gutter
- 1/2" hardware cloth on the run with a 24" apron
- Estimated material cost of about $8,500 to $10,900 (prices vary by region and season)
## Large Walk-In Chicken Coop with Storage for 20 to 25 Hens
The coop gives 5.2 to 6.5 sq ft per hen and the covered run 6.1 to 7.7 sq ft per hen, so this large chicken coop houses 20 to 25 chickens. The 5 nests follow the rule of one nest for every 5 hens, and the three roosts give 16" of perch per hen at 25.
## File Format, Paper Size and Measurements
The plan is a 75-page PDF on US Letter paper. All dimensions are in feet and inches for standard US lumber, with the main sizes also listed in millimeters. Drawings are not to scale, so always use the written dimensions.
## Who This Walk-In Chicken Coop Plan Is For
This is an intermediate build for DIY builders who are comfortable with a circular saw, a jigsaw, a drill/driver, an impact driver and basic framing. Two people can build it in about 10 to 12 weekend days, plus painting. Spring is the busiest building season, so fall and winter are a good time to price lumber and prepare the site before new chicks arrive. It also makes a practical gift for a backyard chicken keeper.

## Frequently Asked Questions
### Why does this chicken coop have a storage shed?
Feed and bedding stay dry in the shed, you collect the eggs from the shed side of the nest box without entering the coop, and the partition door gives the flock an extra door between them and the outside.
### Can I make the coop or the run bigger?
Yes. Move the partition 16" to the left for a bigger coop and a smaller shed; the nest box and the door move with it. The run can be lengthened in 24" bays, as described in the plan.
### Is a 3/12 shed roof steep enough for shingles?
Yes. 3/12 is above the 2/12 minimum of most shingle makers, provided the whole deck gets ice-and-water membrane or a double layer of underlayment, as shown in the plan.
### Do I need a building permit for this chicken coop?
It depends on your town. The building floor is 240 sq ft, the roof about 527 sq ft and the high edge about 13' 2-5/16", and some towns treat a shed of this size differently, so check your local rules before you build.
### How do I download the PDF after purchase?
