## Cedar Board-and-Batten Shed with a Shingle Roof and Barn Doors

The single-slope roof rises over the front, so the 6 ft wide barn doors sit under a tall two-pane transom that lights the bench area. Rough-sawn cedar board and batten wraps all four walls, and real red cedar shingles cover the roof. A cedar deck flush with the floor gives you an outdoor work area right at the doors.

The framing is sized for about 30 psf roof snow. In heavier snow areas, have a local professional check the header and rafters.

## Woodworking Shed with a Built-In Workbench and Lumber Rack

The 192 sq ft floor fits a table saw and other tools, and the plan includes the built-ins that make it a workshop. An 8 ft workbench with a lower shelf sits along the back wall under a tool wall of cedar cleats, and a 3-bay lumber rack on the left wall holds long boards and offcuts.

## File Format, Paper Size and Units

The plan is a 54-page PDF on US Letter paper with imperial measurements, with lengths given in actual inches to 1/16". You can print it or read it on a tablet or computer.

## Who These DIY Workshop Shed Plans Are For

These DIY workshop shed plans suit builders with intermediate skills who can use a circular saw, miter saw and drill. Raising the 16 ft walls, setting the 15 ft rafters and the roof work need a helper, and the front wall is best raised by three people.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How much would it cost to build a 12x16 shed?

The cost to build this 12x16 shed depends on local cedar, lumber and shingle prices. The plan's shopping list gives every board, sheet and hardware quantity, so you can price the full build before you start.

### How much lumber is needed for a 12x16 shed?

This 12x16 shed uses 63 stud-grade 2x4s, 6 pressure-treated 2x4s, nine 16 ft 2x8 rafters and thirteen 12 ft 2x6 floor joists, plus the cedar siding and trim on the shopping list. The plan recommends 3 to 4 extra 2x4s and about 10% extra siding boards and battens.

### What size joists for a 12x16 shed?

This 12x16 shed uses 2x6 pressure-treated floor joists at 16" on center, set between 2x6 rim joists on four 4x6 skids. The roof uses 2x8 rafters at 24" on center.

### Do I need a permit for a 16x12 shed?

A 192 sq ft shed like this 16x12 workshop needs a permit in many places. Check your local zoning, HOA rules, setbacks and height limits before you build, since this shed is about 12' 9" tall at the front eave.

### How do I download the PDF after purchase?
