## 24x30 Butterfly Roof Design: V-Shaped Metal Roof and Open Eaves
This 24x30 pavilion has a butterfly roof: two wings rise toward the front and back eaves and meet in a V over the middle. Twelve 6x6 posts set in concrete carry three built-up 2x12 beams, two tall eave beams and a lower valley beam. Forty identical 2x10 rafters form the V under 2x4 purlins and a 3/12 metal roof, so the underside reads as a warm wood ceiling that dips to the middle. Rain collects in the valley and leaves at both ends, where a rain chain turns it into a feature, and there are no gutters along the eaves. With over 11 ft of clear height at both eaves and 847 sq ft under the roof, there is room for a lounge and a 6-seat dining table at the same time.
## File Format, Paper Size and Units
The modern pavilion plans PDF is 31 pages, formatted for US Letter. Print it at 100% ("Actual size") or open it on a tablet or computer. Dimensions are in feet and inches, rounded to the nearest 1/16", with metric values for reference. All lumber is stock length from US home centers, and the longest boards are 16 ft.
## Who These DIY Modern Pavilion Plans Are For
These DIY plans suit intermediate builders. Front and back are mirror images, one template cuts all 40 rafters and there are no compound cuts, but the eave beams sit over 12 ft up, so plan on scaffolding and a crew of three. Spring is the busiest season for building an outdoor pavilion, so the colder months are a good time to order lumber, plan the site and get permits ready.

## Frequently Asked Questions
### How do I download the PDF after purchase?
After checkout, you get a download link on the order confirmation page and by email. Click it to download the butterfly roof pavilion plans PDF right away.
### What is the point of a butterfly roof?
A butterfly roof opens both eaves high and wide, gives a dramatic V-shaped ceiling and sends all the rain to two predictable spots. On this pavilion, the water leaves the valley at both ends through rain chains.
### What are the disadvantages of a butterfly roof?
The main disadvantage of a butterfly roof is that water, leaves and snow collect in the center valley, so the valley must be kept clear. This plan uses a 24" W-valley with sealed laps and no screws in its center, and heavy-snow areas should have an engineer review the design.
### Is a butterfly roof expensive to build?
A butterfly roof can cost more than a simple shed roof because it needs a valley and more flashing. This plan keeps it simpler with stock lumber and one template for all 40 rafters, and the shopping list lets you price it at your local store.
### Can I use shingles on a butterfly roof pavilion?
No, a 3/12 butterfly roof pavilion needs metal panels and a metal valley. The plan includes the panel, trim and valley flashing quantities.
