## Insulated A-Frame Dog House for Medium Dogs
Two steep 60° roof planes run all the way down to the floor, so the whole house is one strong triangle that sheds rain and snow fast. The rafters, roof and gables are insulated with 1-1/2" rigid foam, and the inside is lined with untreated 1/4" plywood, so your dog only touches plywood and the cedar door jambs. Four short 4x4 legs hold the floor 8-3/4" above the pavers.
### Black Metal Roof and Cedar Gables
- 1/2" plywood, underlayment, black ribbed metal panels and a metal ridge cap
- Natural cedar-stained T1-11 gable siding with black rake boards, skirts and casing
- Front gable set back 8" under the roof for a 7-3/8" deep covered entry
- 1-1/2" door sill that keeps the bedding inside
### Porthole Window and Ventilation
An 8" round porthole window with clear acrylic and a black ring lights the back of the house. Two 4" louvered vents high in the gables keep the air fresh in summer and winter.
## Who This DIY Dog House Plan Is For
This intermediate plan is for DIY builders who can use a circular saw, a jigsaw and a speed square for the 60° cuts. Two people can build it in about two weekends. Interest in insulated dog houses rises toward winter, so this is a good time to build one before the cold months.

## Frequently Asked Questions
### How do I download the PDF after purchase?
After checkout you get a download link on the order page and by email, so you can download the A-frame dog house plans PDF instantly.
### What are the dimensions of this A-frame dog house?
This A-frame dog house is 4'-10-13/16" wide, 4'-3-9/16" deep and 5'-3/4" high overall, with a 45" x 32-1/2" inside floor and a 14" x 21-1/4" door for medium dogs.
### Why build an A-frame dog house?
An A-frame dog house sheds rain and snow fast, is very stiff, and its triangle shape keeps the warm air your dog makes close to the floor.
### Does a black metal roof make a dog house too hot?
The insulation and two vents keep this dog house comfortable, but in very hot climates choose a lighter roof color or place it in partial shade.
### Can I use shingles instead of metal on this dog house?
Yes, use the same underlayment, add drip edge and nail architectural shingles into the 1/2" sheathing, with six nails per shingle on the 60° roof.
