## What's Included in These Chalet Chicken Coop Plans
This plan builds a cottage-style walk-in chicken coop with a covered front porch under one steep gable roof. The front gable has an open king-post truss and scalloped bargeboards, and the walls get lap siding, heart-cut shutters and flower boxes. Inside, two double nest boxes back onto the porch, so you collect eggs through two small egg doors without stepping into the coop.

## 10x12 Walk-In Chicken Coop Specifications
### Coop
The 12' x 10' walk-in coop has 108 sq ft inside with 6' 10" walls and an open vaulted ceiling. The floor sits 11-3/4" above the foundation blocks, and a plank door opens from the porch.
### Nest Boxes, Roosts and Pop Door
Four nest boxes, about 15" x 14" each, open to the porch through two egg doors. Two roost bars give 226" of perch over a dropping board, and a drawbridge pop door at the back lets the hens out.
### Covered Porch and Roof
The 4' x 10' covered porch has 6' 2-1/2" of headroom, railings and a step. The 12/12 roof uses 2x6 rafters on a 2x10 ridge with 12" overhangs, plywood sheathing, synthetic underlayment and architectural asphalt shingles.
### Ventilation
Screened eave vents and gable vents give about 15 sq ft of opening that stays open all year. Four windows add more airflow in warm weather.

## Frequently Asked Questions
### How many chickens can fit in a 10x12 chicken coop?
This 10x12 chicken coop houses 15-20 hens, which gives each bird 5.4-7.2 sq ft of floor space inside.
### How much does it cost to build a 10x12 chicken coop?
The materials for this 10x12 chicken coop cost about $3,600-$4,800. Prices vary by region and season, so price the included shopping list at your local lumber yard.
### Do I need a run with this chalet chicken coop?
Yes, unless your hens free-range every day. No run is included with this chalet chicken coop, so plan a covered run of at least 150-200 sq ft at the back or side, where the pop door can open into it.
### Do I need a building permit for a 10x16 chicken coop?
It depends on your town. The platform of this coop is 160 sq ft, and many areas only allow sheds under 120-200 sq ft without a permit, so ask your local office first.
### How do I download the PDF after purchase?
You can download the PDF right after purchase from the link on the order confirmation page and in your confirmation email. Save it to your device, then print it or open it on screen.
