## Cross-Gable A-Frame Layout: Two Wings, Five Rooms
Two identical 58° A-frames cross at right angles. The main A-frame runs front to back with the glass gable at the front, and the cross A-frame runs left to right. Where they meet, four valley rafters rise to a center hub and form a timber groin vault over the dining area.
- Living room: front wing, facing the glass gable
- Dining: under the vault at the crossing
- Kitchen: back wing, with room for an island
- Bedroom: left arm, with an egress window
- Bathroom: right arm, with space for a tub and vanity
Inside, every wing rises 14' 0-3/4" to the underside of the ridge, and a 9' 2-7/8" wide band of each wing has 6' 8" headroom or more. Two full-height 2x4 partitions close the bedroom and bathroom arms.
## Glass Gable, Standing-Seam Roof and U-Shaped Deck
The front glass gable has a 6' sliding door and two mirror-image fixed glass units up to the ridge. The roof is 1/2" plywood, synthetic underlayment and matte black standing-seam metal, with W-valley pans in the four valleys and a 4-way ridge cap at the center. The 464 sq ft U-shaped deck runs 8' deep across the front and fills both front inside corners.
## File Format, Paper Size and Units
The plan is a single PDF file sized for US Letter paper. Print it, or open it on a tablet or laptop on site. All dimensions are in imperial units with fractions to 1/16", and the master cut list also gives each length in millimeters. Drawings are not to scale, so always build from the written dimensions.
## Who This Cross A-Frame House Plan Is For
This is an advanced DIY plan. The valley and jack framing needs careful layout, and raising the pairs takes three people and scaffolding. Plumbing and electrical work should be done by licensed trades.
The frame is laid out for a ground snow load of up to about 40 psf and moderate wind. The valleys, the center hub and the foundation must be checked and sized by a local engineer before you order lumber. Getting the plan over the winter leaves time for that review and for ordering the custom glass before the spring building season.

You can download the PDF right after purchase from the link on the order confirmation page and in your confirmation email. Save it to your device so you can print it or open it at any time.
### What is a double A-frame house?
A double A-frame house joins two A-frame structures into one home. In this plan, two identical 58° A-frames cross at right angles to form a cross-shaped 972 sq ft cabin.
### How many bedrooms does this double A-frame house plan have?
This double A-frame house plan has one bedroom and one bathroom, each in its own side arm. The front and back wings hold the living room and the kitchen, with the dining area under the vault.
### What are the disadvantages of an A-frame house?
The main disadvantage of an A-frame house is the sloped walls, which reduce headroom near the sides. In this plan, a 9' 2-7/8" wide band of each wing has 6' 8" headroom or more.
### Do I need an engineer for this A-frame house plan?
Yes, this A-frame house plan is not an engineered or stamped drawing set, and the valleys, the center hub and the foundation must be checked by a local engineer. They will size them for your snow, wind and seismic loads.
