## The Monitor Roof and Covered Center Aisle
The 8 ft center aisle runs under a tall 8/12 gable roof and is open at the front and back, so you can split wood, park a cart and keep kindling dry. The two 3/12 wing roofs tuck under the center eaves, and the open vent band between them works like a chimney that lets warm, moist air rise out of the stacks.
## A Large Firewood Shed for 6-1/2 Cords
Each wing is about 84 in wide and 12 ft deep, with a loose stacking platform on 4x4 sleepers. The two wings hold about 6-1/2 cords of 16 in wood stacked 8 rows deep and 66 in high, roughly 11 to 14 tons of seasoned hardwood, and the roof frame carries none of that weight.
## Construction Details of This Monitor Woodshed
- Foundation: 4 in compacted gravel pad, 26 x 16 ft, with 12 concrete piers in 12 in tubes below the frost line and 6x6 standoff post bases
- Frame: 12 pressure-treated 6x6 posts, doubled 2x8 beams, plates and ledgers bolted to the posts, 22 knee braces and 2 diagonal wall braces
- Roof: 8/12 center gable with 2x6 rafters, rafter ties and a ridge board; 3/12 lean-to wings; 2x4 purlins, ribbed metal panels, ridge cap and 12 in eaves
- Walls: 2x6 slats with 1-1/2 in gaps on the wing backs, wing ends and aisle walls; horizontal slat gables on the center roof; open fronts
- Floor: loose stacking platforms on 4x4 sleepers in each wing
- Finish: oil-based semi-transparent exterior stain and end-cut preservative on every cut end of pressure-treated lumber
- Build time: 2 to 3 people, about 5 weekends plus concrete curing
## File Format, Paper Size and Units
The plan is a 46-page PDF sized for US Letter paper. All dimensions are in imperial units (feet and inches) to 1/16 in, and lumber is named by nominal size and drawn at actual size; the cut lists also give metric values for reference. You can print the pages or read them on a tablet or phone at the build site.
## Who This DIY Woodshed Is For
This plan is rated Intermediate and needs 2 to 3 people for the posts, beams and roof. It suits homeowners who burn a lot of wood and want a full winter's supply, plus next year's, under one roof. Fall is when most people stock up on firewood, so this is a good time to plan the build and order the posts and metal panels.

## Frequently Asked Questions
### How do I download the PDF after purchase?
After checkout, you can download the PDF from the download link on your order confirmation page and in your confirmation email. The download is instant, and nothing is shipped.
### What is the best size for a large firewood storage shed?
The best size depends on how much wood you burn, and this 24 x 12 ft firewood storage shed holds about 6-1/2 cords in two wings. The center aisle adds dry working space and can hold more wood if you need it.
### Does rain get in through the vent band of the woodshed?
Very little rain gets in, because the center roof overhangs the wing roofs by 12 in and the vent band sits under that eave. The band lets warm, moist air escape, which is what dries the firewood.
### Can I close the front of the center aisle?
Yes, you can hang a pair of barn doors on the front aisle posts later. Leave the back open so the vent band can still pull air through.
### Can I use shingles instead of metal on this woodshed?
Not as drawn, because the roofs have open purlins and no sheathing. Use the metal panels as drawn.
