## Floor Plan of the 24x36 Porch Gable Loft
The vaulted great room holds the living area, dining area and kitchen, open to the ridge beam at 19 ft 2 in. A hall with laundry, a bathroom and a bedroom of 10' 3" x 23' 1" sit under the loft. A 15-riser stair in the great room leads to the sleeping loft of 18' 6-1/2" x 23' 1", with full headroom over a 10 ft wide band. The 8 ft covered porch runs the full front width, and a French door opens from it into the great room.
## How the Gable Roof and Porch Work
The 9/12 gable roof sits on a structural LVL ridge beam carried by four posts: the porch king post, the front wall, the loft and the back wall. Because the ridge carries the roof, the rafters push no walls outward and no ceiling ties cross the great room. The same roof continues over the open porch, where the timber tie beam and king post stay visible in the gable.

## Who This DIY Gable House Plan Is For
This plan suits DIY builders with framing experience who want a 1 bedroom cabin with a loft and a real outdoor room on the porch. The ridge beam needs a rented material lift, and the roof needs scaffold and a harness. A building permit is needed almost everywhere, so take the plan to your local building department early. Many builders plan over the winter and are ready to build in spring.

## Frequently Asked Questions
### How do I download the PDF after purchase?
After checkout, you can download the PDF from the download link on your order confirmation page and in your confirmation email. The download is instant, and nothing is shipped.
### Which way should the covered porch face?
Ideally the porch faces south or east, so it gets morning sun and the French door lights the great room.
### Can I mirror this cabin plan?
Yes, you can build every drawing mirrored left to right. All lengths stay the same.
### Can I make the house longer or shorter?
Yes, in 16 in steps in the great room, by changing the long walls, girders, rims, the middle ridge-beam piece and the rafter count. Check the new ridge-beam span with your supplier.
### Is the loft a legal bedroom?
It depends on your local code for the stair, egress and ceiling height. The ground-floor bedroom has its own egress window.
