## Outdoor Bar with Polycarbonate Roof: Frame and Dimensions
Six 6x6 pressure-treated posts stand on standoff bases. A doubled 2x12 front beam and a doubled 2x10 back beam, each spliced over the middle posts, sit in notches at the post tops and are through-bolted, with four knee braces. Twelve 2x8 rafters at 24" on center and eight rows of 2x4 purlins carry bronze corrugated polycarbonate panels on a single-slope 4/12 roof, with a 39-3/8" shade overhang at the front and 9' 6-3/4" of headroom under the front beam.
### 20 ft Bar Top and Back Bar
- 20' 1-5/8" 2x12 bar top in two pieces at 42", 8" guest overhang, seats 7
- 47-1/4" side ledge on the left
- 15' 8" back counter and four back-bar shelves
- 50-1/2" bartender entry at the left rear
- Room under the bar top for two compact outdoor fridges
### Cedar Slat Walls and Flip-Down Counter
The walls are 2x4 framing with black rainscreen fabric and 1x4 cedar slats set with 1/2" gaps. The full-height right wall has a 30" x 20" window with cedar trim and a panel that closes it or flips down into an outside counter, so the bar can serve a second group on that side.
## Who This DIY Outdoor Bar Plan Is For
This plan suits experienced DIY builders, with intermediate to advanced skills, who can splice beams and work on a roof. Two or three people are needed for the posts, beams and roof. If there is no slab, the plan explains how to set the posts on concrete piers instead. Interest in outdoor bars peaks in spring, so the off-season is a good time to plan the build and price materials.

## Frequently Asked Questions
### How do I download the PDF after purchase?
After checkout you get a download link on the order page and by email, so you can download the large outdoor bar plan PDF instantly.
### What is a good height for an outdoor bar?
A good outdoor bar height is 42", which is the bar top height in this plan, with an 8" overhang for knee room.
### Can you put a bar on a deck?
You can put this bar on a deck only if the deck is designed for the post loads, with the post bases through-bolted into doubled joists and solid blocking under every post.
### Can I use a solid roof instead of polycarbonate?
Yes, you can replace the purlins with 1/2" plywood and shingles or metal, because the 2x8 rafters at 24" on center carry both.
### Can I build this outdoor bar without a concrete slab?
Yes, you can build this outdoor bar without a slab by pouring six 16" concrete piers below the frost line, setting the post bases in the wet concrete and laying pavers or a deck inside.
