## What's Included in This Lean-To Firewood Shed Plan

This lean-to firewood shed plan takes you from the concrete blocks and runners to the floor frame, slatted deck, posts, beams, knee braces, rafters, wall slats, closet front, purlins, fly rafters, fascia, metal roof, closet door, kindling shelf and bay divider. The cut list, cut diagrams, shopping list and drawings all come from one parametric model, and they were cross-checked against each other before release.

- Overview and specifications with front elevation, left end elevation and floor plan drawings
- Shopping list for lumber, hardware, door hardware and roofing
- Master cut list with a Part ID for every piece
- Cut diagrams for every board
- Cutting templates for the rafters and rake boards
- Cutting templates for the knee braces and tapered slats
- 15 illustrated step-by-step instructions, each ending with its own cut list
- Finishing, stacking and care guide
- 12 renderings of the finished shed, full of firewood and empty

## The Kindling and Tool Closet

The left end of the shed is a closet 39 in wide and 65 in deep, closed with slats on every side and opened by a 33 in board-and-ledge door in the end wall. A slatted kindling shelf sits 49-1/2 in above the floor, so kindling, fire starters, gloves, a splitting axe and a small saw stay together and dry out in the moving air. The closet is not waterproof, so keep fuel and power tools elsewhere.

## Two Bays and a 3/12 Single-Slope Roof

The two open bays are about 68 and 66-1/2 in wide and hold about 2-1/2 cords of 16 in wood stacked 64 in high, roughly 4 to 5 tons of seasoned hardwood. The 3/12 roof (14 degrees) is tall at the front and drains to the back, with a 16 in front overhang, a 12 in back overhang and 6 in at the ends, so rain stays off the stacks and runs away from where you load.

## Construction Details of This 6x16 Wood Shed

- Foundation: 19 solid concrete blocks on compacted gravel, three pressure-treated 4x4 runners and 4 earth anchors, which are required
- Floor: 2x6 pressure-treated rim joists and floor joists at 16 in on center with ten 2x6 deck boards spaced 1 in apart, deck 10-1/2 in above the blocks
- Frame: eight 4x4 posts, two doubled beams of full-length 16 ft 2x8s with no splices, 6 knee braces and 3 diagonal wall braces
- Roof: 3/12 single slope, 9 rafters at about 24 in on center, 2x4 purlins, fly rafters, 1x8 fascia and 6 ribbed metal panels 9 ft long
- Walls: 1x6 slats with 1 in gaps on the back, both ends and the closet; end walls closed up to the roof; open bays at the front
- Closet: board-and-ledge door on heavy T-hinges with a safety hasp, door stops and a slatted kindling shelf on cleats
- Finish: end-cut preservative on every cut end of pressure-treated lumber and oil-based semi-transparent exterior stain
- Build time: 2 people, about 3 weekends

## File Format, Paper Size and Units

The plan is a 43-page PDF sized for US Letter paper. All dimensions are in imperial units (feet and inches) to 1/16 in, and lumber is named by nominal size and drawn at actual size; the cut lists also give metric values for reference. You can print the pages or read them on a tablet or phone at the build site.

## Who This DIY Lean-To Wood Shed Is For

This plan is rated Intermediate and is built by 2 people in about 3 weekends. It suits homeowners who want about 2-1/2 cords of firewood in a long, shallow wood shed with a lockable spot for kindling and tools. Fall is when most people stock up on firewood, and a shed built now lets the next load season over the winter.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How do I download the PDF after purchase?

After checkout, you can download the PDF from the download link on your order confirmation page and in your confirmation email. The download is instant, and nothing is shipped.

### What should the slope of a lean-to shed roof be?

This lean-to shed uses a 3/12 slope, about 14 degrees, which drains rain to the back and suits ribbed metal panels. Shingles would need solid sheathing and a double layer of underlayment at this slope.

### What can I store in the closet of this firewood shed?

The closet of this firewood shed holds kindling, fire starters, gloves, a splitting axe and a small saw on and under the kindling shelf. It is not waterproof, so store fuel and power tools elsewhere.

### Can I put the closet on the right end of the lean-to firewood shed?

Yes, build the whole lean-to firewood shed as a mirror image and the closet moves to the right end. All lengths stay the same.

### Is this lean-to shed plan engineered for snow?

No, it follows common building practice for a small accessory structure. In heavy-snow regions, ask a local builder; the usual fixes are purlins about 16 in apart and heavier-gauge panels.
