## What's Included in This Modern Firewood Shed Plan
This modern firewood shed plan takes you from the concrete blocks and runners to the floor frame, deck, posts, beams, knee braces, rafters, purlins, fascia, metal roof, wall slats, locker divider wall, kindling shelf and locker door. The cut list, cut diagrams, shopping list, drawings and renderings all come from one parametric model, and they were cross-checked against each other before release.
- Overview and specifications with front and end elevations and a floor plan
- Main parts drawing
- Shopping list for lumber, hardware and roofing
- Master cut list with a Part ID for every piece
- Cut diagrams for every board
- Cutting templates for the rafter, knee braces and rake boards
- 16 illustrated step-by-step instructions, with the new parts in each step shown in color
- Finishing, stacking and care guide
- 6 renderings of the finished shed, with firewood and empty
## The Kindling and Tool Locker
The right end of the shed is a 28 in locker closed by a braced slatted door on T-hinges. A shelf at 48 in holds kindling, fire starters, gloves and a hatchet, and long tools stand on the floor below. The slatted door and the vent gap above it let air through, so the kindling stays dry.
## Two Bays and a 3/12 Skillion Roof
Each 51 in bay holds about 0.9 cord stacked 64 in high, so the full shed holds about 1.8 cords, roughly 3 to 4 tons of seasoned hardwood. Use one bay for this winter and the other for next winter. The skillion roof is a 3/12 single slope that is high at the open front and drains to the back, with overhangs of 12 in at the front, 8 in at the back and 6 in at the sides.
## Construction Details of This Lean-To Firewood Shed
- Foundation: 13 solid concrete blocks 16 x 8 x 4 in on compacted gravel, three pressure-treated 4x4 runners and 4 earth anchors, which are required
- Floor: 2x6 frame with a joist under every post and ten 2x6 deck boards with 1 in gaps for airflow, deck 10-1/2 in above the blocks
- Frame: eight 4x4 posts, doubled 2x6 beams in one piece and 4 knee braces in the open front
- Roof: 3/12 skillion with 7 notched 2x6 rafters, 2x4 purlins, ribbed metal panels and high-side trim
- Walls: horizontal 1x6 slats with 3/4 in gaps on the back, ends and locker wall; open front
- Finish as rendered: charcoal solid stain on the frame, cedar-tone semi-transparent stain on the slats, deck and door, and a black metal roof
- Build time: 2 people, about 3 weekends

## Frequently Asked Questions
### How do I download the PDF after purchase?
After checkout, you can download the PDF from the download link on your order confirmation page and in your confirmation email. The download is instant, and nothing is shipped.
### How long does firewood take to season in a firewood shed?
Split wood usually seasons in 6 to 12 months in a firewood shed with a roof and open sides. It is ready when the ends show cracks and a moisture meter reads under 20%.
### What can I store in the kindling locker?
The kindling locker holds kindling, fire starters, gloves and a hatchet on the shelf, with long tools on the floor below. Its slatted door lets air through so the kindling stays dry.
### Can I make this modern firewood shed longer?
Yes, you can make this modern firewood shed longer in 54-1/2 in steps by adding another 51 in bay. Recalculate the lengths before you buy the lumber.
### Can I use shingles on a 3/12 skillion roof?
At 3/12, shingles need solid sheathing and a double layer of underlayment, so the ribbed metal roof is the better choice. The plan explains what to change if you still want shingles.
