## What's Included in This Monitor Barn Pavilion Plan

This 21x32 monitor barn pavilion puts one stepped roof over two spaces: an open timber porch at the front and a one-room studio at the back. The raised center roof sits on a clerestory band that is open over the porch and clad in cedar over the room, with a small fixed transom window on each side. The porch is framed with six 6x6 posts, built-up beams and knee braces, and the exposed monitor truss stays visible overhead.

The plan covers the whole build, from the slab to the trim:

- Floor plan with anchor bolt and post base layout
- Front, back and both side elevations with all key heights
- Monitor truss section with every member length and gusset location
- Gable wall framing with stud lengths and top-cut angles for both gables
- Cutting templates for chords, monitor posts, king posts, hangers, knee braces and plywood gussets
- Wall framing drawings for the side walls and the 2x6 end walls
- Shopping list grouped by material, with an estimated material budget
- Master cut list with part IDs, cut diagrams and a gusset sheet layout
- 16 illustrated step-by-step pages, from site layout to trim
- Finishing and care notes, plus 7 finished renderings

## How the Monitor Roof Trusses Work

Each monitor truss combines two 4/12 lean-to chords over 66" aisles with an 8/12 upper roof that rises from a 2x6 monitor post. Only two roof angles are used, 18.4 and 33.7 degrees, so every chord and gable stud is one of two saw settings. All 17 trusses are built on site at 24" on center, and 2x4 nailers between the posts frame the clerestory band.

## File Format, Paper Size and Units

The plan is a 44-page PDF sized for US Letter paper. All dimensions are imperial, in inches and feet-inches to 1/16", measured from the top of the slab. The cut list adds a millimeter column, and part IDs match every drawing and step page.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### What is the purpose of a monitor barn?

A monitor barn raises the center of the roof above two lower side aisles, which adds height in the middle and room for a band of upper wall. In this monitor barn the raised center gives the porch an open, airy roof and lets the studio ceiling rise toward the ridge.

### What is the purpose of a monitor roof?

A monitor roof lifts part of the roof on short vertical walls so light and air can enter from above. On this plan the clerestory band holds two small fixed transom windows and stays open over the porch.

### How much does it cost to build a 21x32 monitor barn pavilion?

The plan estimates materials for this 21x32 monitor barn pavilion at about $20,500 to $25,000 at typical US big-box prices. Tax, delivery and regional price changes are not included.

### Do I need a permit for a 672 sq ft monitor barn?

A 672 sq ft monitor barn with a finished room usually needs a building permit. Have your building department or a local engineer review the plan for your snow, wind and frost conditions.

### How do I download the PDF after purchase?

You can download the PDF right after purchase from the link on the order confirmation page or in your confirmation email. No physical item is shipped.
