## Modern Double Carport with Two Stepped Shed Roofs

The Cascade is a 2 car carport with a split-level roof. The lower shed roof covers the front half, and the upper shed roof starts higher on the tall middle posts, overhangs the lower roof and leaves a 16" open slot between the two. Daylight comes in through the slot, while rain from the upper roof drops onto the lower roof and runs to one gutter at the front.

- Both metal roofs rise 3 in 12 toward the back, so the light slot is the same 16" everywhere
- The middle row has three twin posts: a short post for the lower roof bolted to a tall post for the upper roof
- Four post lengths set all four beam heights, and the plan gives each one exactly
- 4x4 knee braces along the beams and 2x6 side braces for stiffness
- Foundation: 9 concrete piers in 3 rows, 42" deep or below your frost line, with larger piers under the twin posts
- Design basis: conventional post-and-beam practice for ground snow up to about 20 psf and ordinary inland wind, not an engineered design

## File Format, Paper Size and Units

The plan is a single PDF formatted for US Letter paper. Print it at home or a print shop, or open it on a tablet or laptop at the build site. All dimensions are in feet and inches to 1/16", and the cut list adds metric values for reference.

## Who This 24x20 Modern Carport Plan Is For

This plan suits DIY builders with solid framing experience who want a modern double carport with a striking roof line. It is an intermediate to advanced build: the upper roof is over 16 ft up, so plan on three people for the beams, a rolling scaffold and about five weekends.

## How to Use Your Carport Blueprint PDF

1. Buy the plan and complete checkout.
2. Download the PDF from the link on the order confirmation page or in your email.
3. Print it on US Letter paper or open it on your device.
4. Show the plan to your building department, then follow the shopping list, cut list, rafter templates and 11 steps to build.

Carport searches peak in spring, so the winter months are a good time to get permits, order lumber and paint the parts.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Do I need a permit for a 24x20 carport?

A 480 sq ft carport usually needs a building permit, and at 17' 4" tall this split-level carport may also meet a height limit. Show these carport plans to your building department before you buy lumber.

### What is a good size for a double carport?

This double carport has a 24' x 20' frame with two bays 11' 3-3/4" clear each. The knee braces take about 10" off each bay at 7 ft, so check tall vans and trucks.

### Does rain come through the light slot?

Straight rain does not, because the upper roof overhangs the lower roof by 24". Wind-driven rain and snow can come through, land on the lower roof and drain to the gutter.

### Can I close the light slot?

Yes, you can screw clear polycarbonate between the two fascias to close the light slot. You keep the daylight but lose the airflow.

### How do I download the PDF after purchase?

After checkout, a download link for the PDF appears on the order confirmation page and in your confirmation email. Click it to save the carport plans to your computer, tablet or phone.
