## What's Included in This Insulated Dog House Plan

- Overview and specifications page with all key sizes
- Front, back and side elevations, framing plans and a cross section

- Master cut list with 142 wood parts in 57 part types, plus foam sizes

- Seven computer renderings of the finished dog house (the dog, bowl, chairs, dock, lake and garden are decoration only)
## Dog House with Vestibule: A Windproof Two-Room Layout
Your dog steps up onto the cedar deck, enters the 19" x 18-7/8" vestibule through the side door, turns and walks into the main room through a 13" x 20" inner door. Wind, rain and snow never blow straight in, so the sleeping room stays much warmer in winter. This is a two-room layout for one dog, not a double dog house.
### Insulated Main Room for Medium Dogs
- Rigid foam in the walls and the flat ceiling, with a plywood lining
- Tall window from the room onto the deck and a square vestibule window
- 6" round vents in both main gables and a 4" vent in the back wall
- Floor 10-1/4" above the ground on six concrete deck blocks
### Modern Farmhouse Dog House with Metal Roof
Two 45° gables, a tall main roof and a smaller vestibule roof, are covered in 1/2" plywood, underlayment and dark green metal panels with ridge caps, rake trim and wall flashing. White siding, black corner boards and casing, and an oiled cedar deck finish the look.
## Who This DIY Dog House Plan Is For
This intermediate plan is for DIY builders who can use a circular saw, a jigsaw and a miter saw; every roof cut is 45°. Two people can build it in about two weekends. Interest in insulated dog houses rises toward winter, so this is a good time to build one before the cold months.

After checkout you get a download link on the order page and by email, so you can download the insulated dog house plans PDF instantly.
### What size dog is this insulated dog house for?
This insulated dog house is for medium dogs up to about 20" at the shoulder (roughly 20-50 lb), with a 14-3/8" x 20-1/4" entry door and a 36-1/2" x 32-1/2" x 26-3/4" room.

A dog house vestibule works as an air lock, so wind, rain and snow cannot blow straight into the sleeping room and it stays much warmer in winter.
### How do you make a dog house windproof?
This plan makes the dog house windproof with an entry vestibule, insulated walls and ceiling, and an optional vinyl flap on the inner door in winter.
### Can I use shingles instead of metal on this dog house?
Yes, use underlayment, drip edge and asphalt shingles, plus step flashing where the vestibule roof meets the main wall.
